Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum High School graduate or equivalent 

Possess a valid PA CDL license with school bus and passenger endorsement 

Must have PA vehicle inspection license or willing to pursue 

Five (5) years’ experience in transportation and/or as a mechanic 

Knowledge of computer programs 

A working knowledge of office equipment 

Experience with technology that is compatible with Intermediate Unit-wide systems 

A working knowledge of each application included in the Google suite 

Excellent organizational skills and abilities 

Current Act 34, Act 151 and FBI Clearances as required by the laws of Pennsylvania; any other clearances that may be required by law

 


 
 
 
Description

Head Mechanic - to service School Buses at the Transportation Department located at Colonial Academy, Wind Gap, PA.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Ability to sit for an extended period of time 

Ability to raise or lower objects from one level to another 

Ability to push or pull objects as needed 

Ability to relocate heavy objects 

Ability to use hands and arms to reach and pick up objects 

Ability to see clearly with or without corrective lenses 

Ability to perceive speech or nature of sounds in the air in person and on the telephone 

Ability to move around the work area 

Ability to work with others in a courteous and cooperative manner 

Ability to walk moderate distances inside and outside of facilities and able to climb steps 

Ability to travel inside or outside the Intermediate Unit as necessary for work related tasks 

Ability to withstand changes in environmental conditions inside and outside of the work facility, and adapt to these changes 

Ability to organize snow cleanup of school buses and parking lot 

Ability to drive open runs when needed


OTHER MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB GOALS: Assist with the maintenance of Intermediate Unit-owned, leased or rented vehicles to ensure that they are in safe, reliable and reasonable condition, and within mileage limitations. 

Ensure that Intermediate Unit vehicles are safe and efficiently maintained 

Maintain written records of Intermediate Unit vehicles including oil changes and lubricants, tires, mileage, bus rotation and other repairs as needed 

Maintain inventory of frequently needed stocked replacement parts 

Oversee proper state inspections of Intermediate Unit-owned, leased or rented vehicles 

Provide recommendations for additional purchases of shop tools and equipment 

Maintain communication with outside contractors who will perform major warranty repairs 

Provide recommendations for specification changes in the new vehicle purchase process 

Serve as the main point of contact for all mechanics and garage related issues 

Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation and Coordinator of Transportation 

Maintain shop in a neat, clean and orderly fashion


Head Mechanic(s) will receive a yearly stipend of $5,000.
